卡罗尔在《漫游其境》1896年再版时,给出了这个问题的答案:
Because it canproduce a few notes,tho they arevery flat:and is nevar put with thewrong end in the front!
因为乌鸦可以发出声音(用来写字),虽然非常平板,却不会头尾颠倒。
卡罗尔把never写成nevar,倒过来看就成了raven。
